Perishable & Non - Perishable Definitions

Perishable
Perishable is: Foods that unless stored correctly will go bad quickly 
  • They are to be stored in the refrigerator or the freezer as they can spoil easily. Stored at 4-6 degrees
Examples of Perishable foods:
  1. Fish
  2. Eggs 
  3. Dairy Products
Non- perishable
Non- Perishable:Foods that do not rapidly go rancid
  • They are long food term that don't need refrigeration. They also don't need the need to be refrigerated after being opened
Example of Non-Perishable foods:
  1.  Dry Goods (Pasta, Cereal etc)
It can change with the different types of food that is being stored in various places

What is the "danger zone"

  1. The "DANGER ZONE" is where bacteria growth increases rapidly and can double in less that 20 mins. Also 37 degrees is the mid temperature and is great for bacteria growth
  2. Slowing bacteria growth- 20℃ or less
  3. 60℃ and above is the zone where bacteria starts to die
