In Social Studies this term I learned some interesting things revolving around Slavery and Human Rights. Things involving Child Labour, Human Trafficking and how it's affected people in many ways.
What I learned under the topic......
SLAVERY:
Well slavery in America went from 1600-1865, but is believed that it had been going on well before that in other places of the world. Christopher Columbus, was the first slave trader of North America. In 1492 he came across the Caribbean while trying to find a quicker way from India to Spain. Because of this discovery he found the Native Arawak people and decided to enslave them to mine the gold and silver from their lands. To enslave them he took men to the Caribbean and beat or killed them into submission. This was named the 'Taino Genocide'. From that the Slave Trade Triangle was formed.
SLAVE TRADE TRIANGLE:
You see the Slave Trade Triangle is based over the Antarctic Ocean. Its a route from America to Europe to Africa and back. Its a triangle base where things are traded. Ships, Guns and weapons were taken to Europe from America. Europe would trade those weaponry with the African Kings for Golds/Silver, from that point on slaves from Africa were being kidnapped.
SLAVES:
Interesting enough Harriet Tubman was born a slave. She was a famous conductor in the Underground Railroad leading hundreds of slaves to freedom. Leading up to the she had strange visions as a communication from God which she believed was her calling to save them.
OVERALL:
Covering most historical events we also contributed Human Rights and how it can be included, and how the rights of slaves we taken away from them. This term I have learned a lot around this particular topic.
