My experience throughout this whole topic has been bumpy. We watched videos, a lot of them, and we have also been given paragraph lessons. Given the headstart, we started a research of our own with the question to answer. To tell you the least we struggled the first couple of weeks. A lot of the questions we understood, but the rest didn't make sense in any way or form. We had some ups and downs. One of them is that we almost lost our slideshow. Well, that's all for now.

Hurricane Katrina

Here is a short paragraph of Hurricane Katrina...

When strong winds reach up to 270 km/h or less a hurricane occurs. Hurricanes need a number of factors to form, an ocean temperature of 26.5℃ and a depth of 50m. Storm surges and heavy rainfall are significant results of the storm. Hurricane ⸺ a fierce storm ⸺ is likely to affect people in its path. Buildings, local homes, and businesses are one of many things destroyed by a hurricane.

Reflection

What did you perform?
Raven and I did a duet on the piano and performed  Lovely by Billie Eilish.

Who did you do it with?
I performed my duet with Raven Tipoki

Why did you choose this song?
I chose this song because I really like the melody of it and it's a very nice song.

If you perform again what would change?
I wouldn't change anything because I was happy with the performance even though we hit like 2-3 wrong chords, but it's funny to look back on.

What has been your favourite project this year?
My favourite project was the horror composition that we created. It was my favourite because Raven and I had a lot of fun getting frights from our own piece of work. Although I was not able to perform the piece with her, I had a lot of fun.ud

What have you found challenging about this year?
This year I found it challenging to overcome my fears of performing in a crowd. I'm really proud of myself because I don't have any nerves anymore and I'm keen to perform again.

What advice would you give to the year 10's of 2019?
Just do it. If you are passionate about music and you really enjoy learning new types of instruments or songs then you should do it. At first, it's scary but after so many performances those nerves fade away.

Goals for 2019
I'm just hoping to succeed in NCEA and make it through all of my exams. I also hope to fail at least once and learn from it cause it's a really good way of learning and improving.

Matariki

On Monday, Mr Langley taught us about Matariki. Following that he taught us a few sentences structures to help with our writing. 

Here is an example of my writing.

Matariki is the name given to a cluster of seven stars. This occurs on the last few days of May, around the shortest day of the year. Remarkably, the appearance of the stars signifies the beginning of a New Year. While Matariki is in the sky, people gather and preserve crops. Celebrating Matariki gathers people of young and old generation to reflect on the past and plan for the future.

Experiment

These are a list of things that make a home earthquake proof:

• External walls are 6 inches thick. 
• Steel bars on the inside of walls.
• Reinforced concrete as the foundation.
• Hard soil under the home.
• Steel bars in the roof.

The outcome of our earthquake-proof house:

It was not successful because it didn't have a flat base because by the time I started it I didn't have the resources I needed. Architects make deep foundations to keep tall buildings stable.
